Payment is required at the time of service.
At what age can I have my pet spayed or neutered?
A spay or neuter can be done when your pet is approximately six months old. Your pet is given an exam prior to surgery to help determine whether your pet is healthy enough to undergo the surgical procedure. Current vaccinations and pre-anesthetic blood work are required at the time of surgery.
What is the pre-anesthetic blood screening?
This is a blood test that is run in-house prior to surgery. It tests the organ functions, blood counts, and clotting function of your pet. The pre-anesthetic blood screening is done to ensure the safety of our patients during surgery and their ability to heal following surgery.
How long do the sutures stay in after my pet's surgery?
Included in your pet's surgical procedure is a complimentary suture removal and incision site progress exam 10 to 14 days following his or her surgery. This is generally scheduled on the day of your surgery during discharge. You are always welcome to call us closer to the end of the 10 to 14-day period to schedule this post-operative follow-up exam.
Is it a good idea to let my pet have at least one litter?
No, there is no advantage to letting your pet have one litter. However, there are plenty of advantages to having your pet spayed or neutered. These advantages include a decreased chance of breast tumors, cystic ovaries, and uterine infections, as well as a decrease in the incidence of prostate cancer later in life. Another advantage is a lowered desire to roam the neighborhood, helping decrease the surplus of unwanted puppies and kittens.
